Recently I was checking for some options to create ‘Short and Long Descriptions’ for GL Accounts in Transaction FSP0 (Table SKAT) and noticed the MASS Change does not help as the descriptions are not currently available in a language that is required to be updated. MASS Change helps only to change the existing Texts in a given language. So, the best way is to either create an LSMW or a SECATT.
CATT is pretty simple and takes very short time to create /test and transport. In an earlier blog, I had also shared some tips on certain hidden nice features. You may please refer to the below link.
So, to upload the Short and Long Description via Transaction ‘FSP0’ (Table SKAT), SECATT comes in handy. While recording, we just need to use the ‘last page’ arrow as shown in the following screen. For example, if we need to update the description in German Language, press the ‘Last Page’ button, then enter the language and description in short and long text as required and save the recording.
Once the recording is completed and after the parameters have been updated the ECATT would look as follows:
The sample upload file is given below for ready reference and also to help carry out a test cycle.
Use Case in Other Transactions:
SECATT could be used in many other cases like FI Transaction ‘FBR2’ (Post with Reference and also to generate reverse postings). In the case of Configuration too, this comes in handy and for example in CO Config Transaction KZZ2 (Define Percentage Overhead Rates), it can be used to update OH percentages. Further, CATT can be used in more transactions like NACR, OBC* etc. Another example is transaction ‘VKOA’ (Assign GL Accounts for SD Account determination). In this case instead of Transaction ‘VKOA’, we should use the Table with prefix ‘C’. For example, table 001 in VKOA, will be C001 and the same can be modified via transaction SM31. Recording can also be done using transaction SM31. This is required because, in VKOA, there is no option in the initial screen to choose the required table using the ‘Position’ button like in the details screen.
Hence, we can do some improvisation and utilize the CATT Tool to our fullest advantage. Those interested, could explore more options.
Download/Upload:
The CATT Script can be downloaded from one environment and uploaded to another (example – Sandbox to Development or Quality) and also can be moved through regular Transports.
This blog is basically to help those, who are not familiar with the CATT Tool. Trust this helps in your day-to-day functionalities.
