Dear community,
As you surely know, SAP has recently discontinued the brand name “SAP Cloud Platform”. However, the functions remain and will continue as products and services within SAP Integration Suite and SAP Extension Suite. This means that the functional scope of the former SAP Cloud Platform is now part of the SAP Business Technology Platform.
Introduction
By delivering SAP Cloud Platform capabilities as services on SAP Business Technology Platform, we are making it easier for our customers to become an intelligent enterprise. The central, unified platform provides the foundation for the business transformation.
In a summary the SAP Business Technology Platform is the platform for the Intelligent Enterprise. Customers can achieve agility, business value, and continual innovation through integration, data to value, and extensibility of all SAP and third-party applications and data assets.
And here the SAP Launchpad service plays a key-role. It establishes a central point of access for your users to SAP applications (e.g. SAP S/4HANA), custom-built, and third-party applications and extensions, both on the cloud and on premise.
With the recent enhancements we are also able to:
- Integrate SAP Fiori applications from the SAP Business Suite
- Integrate (CRM) WebClient UI apps
- Integrate SAP SuccessFactors apps via deep links (open in new tab)
- Create custom icons for tiles
A detailed list of enhancements and further information around the SAP Launchpad service are stored here:
Is the Web Assistant ready for SAP Launchpad Service?
Since the Web Assistant 3.0.0 release in February, we have seen that the product team has been working continuously on SAP Launchpad Service support.
With the latest 2105 release of SAP Enable Now, it is finally possible to configure the Web Assistant for the SAP Launchpad Service. As I have just mentioned the release of SAP Enable Now 2105, please check out Kristina’s blog article What’s New 2105 – Feature Pack Overview if you want to find out more about all the great new features of this latest release.
But back to our topic.
By clicking this link you come directly to the updated Web Assistant Integration Guide at help.sap.com. From page 35 you will find all the necessary information on how to configure the Web Assistant for the SAP Launchpad Service.
Please note, you have to login first with you S-User ID on sap.help.com. The link will not open if you are not logged in.
Content Scenarios
The Web Assistant for SAP Launchpad Service can be configured to support one of three content scenarios:
Scenario 1: Standard content scenario
By using this scenario, the SAP standard content (currently SAP S/4HANA Cloud or SAP S/4HANA On-Premise – defined by configuration) will be delivered through the Web Assistant. The product team is also working on a solution to configure and define multiple SAP standard content solutions. This setup requires no SAP Enable Now licenses.
Scenario 2: Customer-specific content scenario
By using this scenario, only customer-specific content will be delivered through the Web Assistant. This setup requires SAP Enable Now licenses.
Scenario 3: Extended content scenario
By using this scenario both SAP standard and customer-specific content will be delivered through the Web Assistant. This setup requires SAP Enable Now licenses.
Known limitation
Currently, the Web Assistant does not cover yet the entire functionality of SAP Launchpad Service. We have no Web Assistant support for Web Dynpro ABAP (WDA) components and SAP GUI for HTML components.
In addition, you should also note:
- Only SAP S/4HANA apps are supported
- Only destination-based apps are supported
- Cross-app guided tours are not yet supported
- Guided tours can only be started and edited at the beginning screen
- The Web Assistant on the SAP Business Technology Platform does not yet run in the Foundry environment it’s just available for SAP Fiori Launchpad Sites in the Neo environment
Closing
I am confident that work will continue on this topic and that we will see further improvements in the future.
In conclusion, I hope that this article inspires you to activate the Web Assistant for SAP Launchpad Service.
Take care,
Michael
