Spartacus allows you to quickly create a fast and engaging PWA storefront for SAP Commerce Cloud. Spartacus is an Angular-based JavaScript storefront communicating through our SAP Commerce REST API.
After 6 months in beta version, Spartacus development team with many other SAP Commerce teams (B2C Accelerator, SmartEdit and Cloud Automation) have combined their effort to finally release the first GA version earlier this month (July’19).
During the beta period, I have been approached by many customers in Asia who wanted to explore how to transition to Spartacus. Now that I had the opportunity to evaluate the GA version, I can quite confidently recommend moving to Spartacus for any B2C Commerce website.
In this article, I will make my best to share some major advantages of Spartacus compared to the JSP-based templates that we provide in our Accelerator storefronts.
1 – Decoupled architecture
Our Commerce REST APIs has been improved to be fully compliant with any JavaScript storefront technology so you can completely separate frontend and backend developments.
Since frontend tech has gone fast the last decade, working with jQuery is not enough and frontend developers are expecting to be able to use one of the major JS frameworks such as Angular, React or Vue.js.
The gap between frontend and backend technologies has expanded and, these days, you will not expect the same developer to have all the skills required to develop efficiently on both sides. You probably want to separate concerns into different teams so you gain in productivity and scalability.
