SAP S/4HANA Cloud provides out-of-the-box solutions for enterprise processes (such as order-to-cash or procure-to-pay). These solutions are based on industry best practices and offer state-of-the-art technologies that support running any intelligent enterprise: the perfect solution for most standard processes! However, there might still be cases where you as a customer have needs that differ from others, where you want to distinguish yourself from your competitors with your own business models.
While introducing company-specific modifications, you might want to adapt the UI of apps that are part of SAP’s standard delivery, so that they perfectly fit your exact requirements. This lets you, for example, introduce custom input fields for your users. It’s also possible to simplify UIs with just a couple of clicks by removing fields that are never used anyway, thus reducing processing time.
In this blog, we explain how your key user can easily adapt the user interface of the Create Sales Orders app, which is based on SAP Fiori Elements. SAP safeguards these adaptations with any future upgrade.
Watch in the video below how a key user removes, adds, moves, and renames fields to adapt the UI to his company’s needs.
As opposed to personalization, the changes made with key user adaptation apply to the entire app and therefore to all app users. The changes in the app UI can be made in the header as well as in the item details.
Moving UI elements
In adaptation mode, editable UI elements get highlighted when you hover over or select. Some of the UI changes that can be made to the SAP Fiori app Create Sales Orders are moving UI elements like KPIs, fields, or sections by dragging and dropping the desired UI element.
Adding or Removing UI elements
UI elements can be added or removed by right clicking on the UI element container where the element should be added or removed. Additionally added UI elements can be standard fields that have been delivered, but are not shown on the UI by default, or custom fields that customers create themselves.
If you would like to add a field, you can choose from a list showing the available content for the specific context. After an element has been removed from the UI, it is not permanently deleted from the app. The removed element can be added again at any point.
Below you can see an example of a screen before key user adaptation, followed by a screenshot displaying the editing mode.
Here, the field credit limit utilization has been removed.
Renaming UI elements
It is possible to change the name of a UI element: By double-clicking, the text gets highlighted, and can be renamed. You can also right-click the element and choose Rename from the context menu.
Undoing changes and resetting the UI
A built-in safety net informs you whenever you’re about to do changes worth double-checking, for example removing mandatory fields from the UI. All changes can be undone, discarded and the UI can be reset to the default of the app.
The new SAP Fiori application Create Sales Orders makes it easy for key users to adapt its UI to support special business cases, fulfill specific company requirements, and improve the user experience for internal sales representatives.
In the upcoming months, we will share further videos showing specific capabilities — stay tuned!
