Summer is almost here! Students are finishing up their schoolwork and families are beginning to make plans for the coming months, but that doesn’t mean students can’t keep exploring their academic interests. With the current circumstances surrounding Covid-19, we understand that students will be looking to fill their break with activities in a safe, virtual setting. For high schoolers passionate about technology, SAP provides an exciting and remote opportunity to learn about the newest technologies that industry professionals use every day to help the world run better and improve people’s lives.
Each year, SAP’s Center of Expertise (CoE) in North America hosts high school students at its Newtown Square campus outside of Philadelphia to participate in a weeklong Summer Orientation. As health and safety is top priority, we want to offer the same experience for students again this year, but virtually. Last year was also hosted virtually and with great success! The program provides students with the opportunity to learn about SAP technologies through hands-on activities while receiving educational and career guidance from professionals in the field. SAP experts lead daily, interactive sessions that cover a variety of exciting topics, from coding and data analytics to SAP Cloud and IoT platforms. Over the course of the week, students use their technical skills and newly acquired knowledge to resolve real-world scenarios using SAP technologies.
Last year, Summer Orientation kicked off with a brief introduction to the history, mission, and vision of SAP presented by Balaji Rao Gaddam, Head of CoE North America. Students learned about SAP solutions and services that the CoE provides for many of the world’s largest multinational corporations, such as Apple, Nike, and PayPal. In addition to discussing the business and technical aspects of working in the tech industry, Balaji also offered advice acquired from his own experience. Students also met different SAP teams, had a career tip session, and heard a few sessions on topics such as big data, IoT, and machine learning.
Students work on a primary project throughout the week that is always relevant to the latest in technology. The students’ work has evolved over the years, much like how SAP’s products have evolved as well! In previous years of the program, students have built projects using a wide variety of SAP technologies. When we were able to meet in person at Newtown Square, students would leverage 3rd party hardware such as the Amazon Echo Dot or a Raspberry Pi and develop fun use cases to connect the devices to SAP products and technologies. With the transition to remote learning, students will be focusing on technologies that have become even more important for our customers during the pandemic, like SAP’s Intelligent Robotic Process Automation and SAP Conversational AI. Students will have the opportunity to develop new capabilities, just like our customers are using these tools to optimize their workflows and provide new user experiences to their own clientele. At the end of the week, they will be able to showcase their achievements to their fellow peers and CoE team members.

High school students interested in attending the 2021 CoE Summer Orientation should apply to the below job posting. Space is limited for this competitive program. Transcripts are required to be considered for the program. Reference letters are also welcome, but not required. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in STEM and a desire to pursue further study and/or a career in a STEM-related field.
